Coroner’s Inquest into the death of six patrons of NSW music festivals
FFDLR thanks Deputy State Coroner, Harriet Grahame for her comprehensive report and recommendations following the inquest into deaths at NSW music festivals. The recommendations have been based on scientific evidence and the desire to treat all people with humanity.
However it is disappointing that the first response from the Premier, Gladys Berejiklian and the NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller was to immediately disregard the importance of the recommendations.
An SBS News article reports on the response by NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller showing his disdain for the recommendations and hard work put into the inquiry.
Meanwhile, an opinion piece by former Federal Police Commissioner, Mick Palmer states,
“Neither government nor the Police Commissioner are required to accept them, but coronial inquiry recommendations are normally taken seriously, fully examined and considered. Cogent and persuasive reasons should be provided to the public, and bereaved families, for any decisions that are made.”
